Interns
Apply for a supervised laboratory or research placement. No prior laboratory experience is required for our entry-level programmes.
Applying for a placement
We offer placements at several levels: entry-level programmes for students with no laboratory experience, internships for those partway through a relevant degree, and research placements for graduates ready to work on a defined question.
You do not need a connection at the Center or a letter from a professor who knows us. We would rather assess a clear, honest application than a well-connected one, and the strongest applications are usually those that say plainly what the applicant can already do and what they want to learn.

What to include
Keep it brief and specific. We are not looking for polish.
- What you are studying, and where you are in it
- Any laboratory techniques you have already used
- What you would like to learn, as specifically as you can put it
- Why this area interests you — a real reason, not a formula
- When you are available, and for how long
- Any constraints we should know about
- Whether you need the placement to be paid
- A CV, if you have one — it is not essential
