How it works

Applying for a placement

We offer placements at several levels: entry-level programmes for students with no laboratory experience, internships for those partway through a relevant degree, and research placements for graduates ready to work on a defined question.

You do not need a connection at the Center or a letter from a professor who knows us. We would rather assess a clear, honest application than a well-connected one, and the strongest applications are usually those that say plainly what the applicant can already do and what they want to learn.

Young Researchers Program

For students with no prior laboratory experience. Assumes no background and no network.

Supervised laboratory placements for students partway through a relevant degree.

For graduates ready to work on a defined research question under supervision.

Fellowships

Funded research positions for early-career researchers, with protected time.

Workshops

Short intensive courses in a specific technique, open without a placement.

Mentorship

Sustained one-to-one guidance, which can run alongside any of the above.

Why this area interests you — a real reason, not a formula
When you are available, and for how long
Any constraints we should know about
Whether you need the placement to be paid
A CV, if you have one — it is not essential
