Startup & Research Ideas

Submit a concept for review. We assess ideas on scientific merit and on whether the result could genuinely reach the people who need it.

Submissions

We would rather see an early idea than a polished one

You do not need a completed prototype, a business plan or a funding round to approach us. In fact, early is better: the most valuable input we can offer usually concerns whether the underlying science supports the claim, and whether the eventual product could be affordable — and both are far cheaper to establish before development than after it.

We assess submissions from researchers, clinicians, students and founders. An honest account of what is uncertain is more useful to us than confident claims, and it will not count against a proposal.

The process

What happens after you submit

  • 01

    Submission

You send us the idea, the health problem it addresses, and what is already known about both.

  • 02

    Initial review

We assess scientific plausibility, whether the need is real, and whether existing solutions already cover it.

  • 03

    Discussion

If it looks promising, we talk it through in detail — including the parts that worry us.

  • 04

    Support decision

We agree what support would be useful: incubation, collaboration, technical guidance, or an introduction elsewhere.

What to include

Helpful things to tell us

None of these are mandatory — send what you have.

  • The health problem you are addressing, and who it affects
  • What currently exists, and why it is inadequate or unaffordable
  • Your proposed approach, in plain terms
  • What evidence already supports it, including others' work
  • What you are most uncertain about
  • What stage you are at, honestly
  • What you would need in order to take the next step
  • Who is involved and what expertise they bring
