The gap

Validated is not the same as deployable

A method that has been validated in a research laboratory has cleared a scientific bar. It has not yet cleared the practical ones: can it be manufactured consistently, transported without a cold chain, run by a technician after a short training, supplied with reagents that are actually obtainable, and priced within reach of the intended user?

Each of those can end a project after the science has succeeded. Our biotechnology innovation work addresses them deliberately, and does so early — because a design decision taken during development is far cheaper to change than one discovered at deployment.

Reducing dependence on scarce, expensive or cold-chain-dependent reagents.

Establishing whether something can be produced consistently at the scale required.

Documenting protocols so other laboratories can adopt a method, and supporting them while they do.
