Research from the bench to the point of care
Laboratory, translational and clinical research across molecular biology, biotechnology, diagnostics and public health — carried out in the public interest.
Our first founding objective commits the Center to promote and undertake scientific research in molecular biology, biotechnology, diagnostics and public health, including translational and clinical research, for the advancement of knowledge and the improvement of healthcare outcomes.
Those four fields are not separate programmes running in parallel. A molecular finding becomes useful when it can be turned into an assay; an assay becomes useful when it has been validated against real clinical samples; and a validated assay only improves outcomes if population-level research shows where it should be deployed. We organise research along that path rather than by discipline.
